Projects 1-4 are now at the bottom of this page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Project 5, Due May 20. <br>No late projects will be accepted unless you have an accommodation from the Office of Accessibility.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>For this project, I would like to see you build on one of your previous projects (1-4).<\/li><li>Please email me a <strong>link (e.g. Google Drive)<\/strong> to one of the following:<ol><li>A Unity directory that includes<ul><li>A <strong>2+ minute screen recording<\/strong> in which you&#8217;re interacting with your <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>fullscreen Unity build or &#8220;game&#8221; tab<\/strong><\/span>.&nbsp;Include audio, and please show the world of the project. DO NOT show the Unity UI.<\/li><li>A subdirectory that contains your <strong>Unity project files<\/strong> (with, at minimum, the sub-subdirectories of Assets, Packages, and ProjectSettings).<\/li><li>Optional (extra credit): A <strong>Mac OS Unity build<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>A polished, <strong>4+ minute 3D animation<\/strong> that uses visuals <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">AND<\/span> audio to build on one of your earlier Maya or Blender projects. It should have some kind of implied narrative to it, in that it changes from the beginning, to the middle, to the end.<\/li><\/ol><\/li><li>In your email, please briefly answer:<ul><li>How does this project build on your previous work in this course?<\/li><li>Did you use sample projects, models, images, audio, or other assets to make your project? The star positions must appear as we see it on Earth.<\/li><li>Try running\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/drive\/folders\/1efs_poCX69fPHXKx5m-5ttAywPA5Ycgu\" target=\"_blank\">a different Constellation MEL file<\/a> in Maya and render a quick animation like with the Ursa Minor animation. The star positions must appear as we see it on Earth.<\/li><li>Don&#8217;t see the constellation you want? If you want to learn even more about protein and DNA in 3D, check out new resources on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/arlduc.org\/senseandscale\/?p=4565\">Data Sources<\/a>\u00a0page.<\/li><li>Challenge: can you import a molecule into Maya with its color? If so, send a screenshot to Prof for EC!<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><strong>City Visualizations<\/strong>: Install\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.qgis.org\/en\/site\/\" target=\"_blank\">QGIS<\/a>. This is a very useful app for preparing geographic files. Try downloading the shapefiles for\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/data.cityofnewyork.us\/Housing-Development\/Building-Footprints\/nqwf-w8eh\" target=\"_blank\">NYC building footprints<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.qgis.org\/3.16\/en\/docs\/user_manual\/managing_data_source\/create_layers.html?highlight=add%20shapefile#creating-a-new-shapefile-layer\" target=\"_blank\">opening them in QGIS<\/a>. If you prepare this file in black-and-white, you can them use them as a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/knowledge.autodesk.com\/support\/maya\/learn-explore\/caas\/CloudHelp\/cloudhelp\/2020\/ENU\/Maya-LightingShading\/files\/GUID-F403A3FF-55BE-43A0-B6E1-49BA7C6BF5EE-htm.html\">surface relief texture<\/a>.<\/li><li><strong>Unity stuff<\/strong><ul><li>Go through any\/all of the non-playground tutorials in the Physics Playground series (the non-playground tutorials start at \u201c<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/learn.unity.com\/tutorial\/intro-to-the-unity-physics-engine-2019-3-1?projectId=5efc99d1edbc2a0020112688&amp;uv=2019.3\" target=\"_blank\">Intro to the Unity Physics Engine 2019<\/a>\u201c) and send prof 3+ paragraphs or other documentation (pics, video, etc) about the process.<\/li><li>A useful Unity asset management tutorial:\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/learn.unity.com\/tutorial\/creating-lods-in-maya-for-unity#5f68d412edbc2a0020801d1e\" target=\"_blank\">Creating LODs (levels of detail) in Maya for Unity<\/a>. The link can be WeTransfer, Google Drive, Discord, YouTube, Vimeo, or any other service you use, just make sure I have access permission.<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>My preferred format is&nbsp;<strong>MP4<\/strong>, but other common formats like MOV and AVI are fine.
